Headwaters Foundation Walk for Justice
Welfare Rights will be participating in the Headwaters Foundation - Walk for Justice on September 17th to support the work of our organization. Your generosity is needed more than ever as we are experiencing budget cuts and tough economic times. With the money we raise, we will be able continue our efforts to organize and empower women and their families to help fight for economic justice.
The Welfare Rights Committee is a low-income organization of current and former welfare recipients who are fighting for economic justice. We are all volunteer, women-led organization with many people from different nationalities. We are going into our 15th year of organizing and fighting attacks on the poor and working families in MN. WRC is opposed to welfare, healthcare and childcare cuts. Welfare is what many of us need to survive, and already it's not enough. We cannot compromise with people's lives. Welfare Rights are Human Rights!
WRC works to put out the big picture: What we all really need are living wage jobs, affordable housing, free education, childcare, and healthcare. This society needs to recognize raising children as valuable work. Until these things are in place for everyone there will be a need for welfare. We know that it is up to welfare recipients, low-income people and us to lead the fight. We see the current attacks on welfare as racist, sexist, anti-poor and anti-immigrant. We are committed to fighting all these systems of oppression.
Headwaters is a foundation that funds groups, like ours, that actively take part in changing society. The money comes from people like you, companies, and other organizations that believe in social change. The Walk for Justice is an annual community event for grassroots and non-profit organizations to raise awareness and financial support for their groups. FYI: http://www.headwatersfoundation.org
With your added support, the money raised will be used to help our organization. To contiune to educate people and our communities about the issues that affects us. To change policy issues in order to stop the economic and healthcare cuts. To make sure that we are able to help as many people as we can when they are striving to be more self-sufficient.
